ONE DAY TRAINING WORKSHOPS (17th February 2004)

With support from SAI Global, the following full day workshops are offered on the new Australian Standard ‘Project Performance Measurement Using Earned Value’. The courses will be held on Tuesday, 17th February 2004 at the Rydges Lakeside Hotel, Canberra (2004 Symposium Venue).

INTRODUCING AS4817-2003

Earned Value management is recognized as best practice for controlling performance on projects of any size. This introductory course provides the background, context understanding and benefits to be gained from implementing an earned value based management system per AS4817-2003. The methodology integrates the technical work scope, schedule and budget resources of a project to create a baseline plan. This establishes a means to reliably and objectively measure and analyse progress against plan, report performance, recognise trends, forecast to completion and provide signals when things go amiss.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
  • understand the benefits to be gained through EV measurement
  • understand the steps required to implement an EV based management approach
  • know how to apply EV across the project lifecycle
  • use and interpretation of EV data to measure project performance
PRE-REQUISITES
Participants should have a background in project management, comprehending project lifecycles, planning, scheduling and reporting.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Company executives, program directors, financial officers, project managers, project office staff, project accountants and team leaders wanting a proven method for tracking the cost and schedule performance of their projects.

GOVERNANCE VIA EARNED VALUE DATA

An Earned Value management system produces data which indicates the health of a project and each of its control accounts. It also enables objective forecasts of cost and schedule outcomes to be made. This course outlines how to utilize AS4817-2003 to obtain the data required for both internal and external project governance needs, as applicable to either the supplier or the customer. This advanced course is designed to be taken stand-alone.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
  • know how to specify EVM requirements in tenders and contracts
  • know and be able to interpret EVM products
  • be able to use EVM data for governing projects
  • understand the requirements for reviewing an EVM system
  • know how to perform data integrity surveillance
PRE-REQUISITES
Attendance at the AS4817-2003 Introductory Workshop or at least a working level of knowledge of the content of the standard.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
